Trailers Signs Issue

Often when we talk about transporting or storing a boat, especially those under 10m, we use transport trailers. These can come from a Greek or foreign manufacturer or even be self-made. The issue of trailer plates, including those for boats, is necessary, according to the legislation in force.

Let us recall that trailers can be divided into O1 category for gross weight up to 750 kg (boat + trailer) and O2 category for gross weight above 750 kg up to 3500 kg.

Supporting documents for the issuance of new O1 trailer plates

When the special towing mark has been issued under a national type approval or EU type approval,certain documents will be required to issue a plate on our boat trailer:

Application from the competent transport authority, with the imprint of the 17-digit vehicle identification number if it can be imprinted (e.g. engraved or embossed)
Photographs of all sides of the trailer showing clearly the rear, front and side views and the engraved vehicle identification number and manufacturer’s plate, in digital and printed form
Original towing note

After all the above are collected and delivered to the competent transport department, the new 17-digit number is engraved and the plates are received.

Supporting documents for the issuance of O1 used trailer plates

When the special towing note has been issued on the basis of the special towing note issued under No. οικ 34075/3603/1999 (B’2117) u.a:

Application from the competent transport authority, with the imprint of the 17-digit vehicle identification number if it can be imprinted (e.g. engraved or embossed)
Photographs of all sides of the trailer showing clearly the rear, front and side views and the engraved vehicle identification number and manufacturer’s plate, in digital and printed form
Original towing note
Responsible declaration of article 8 of Law no. 1599/1986 of a mechanical engineer in accordance with the model in Annex II

Once all of the above is collected and delivered to the relevant transport department, the new protocol number will require a study by a mechanical engineer and the engraving of the new 17-digit number. With this final certificate, and after resubmitting it to the transport department, we receive the registration plates within a few days.

When the special towing note has been issued on the basis of the Decree No. 23780/1978 (B’2117) before the amendment of the Decree No. 34075/3603/1999 (B’ 2117),a procedure similar to that just mentioned shall be followed, with the addition of a solemn declaration instead of the original towing document.

2 fees are required for the issue of category O1 registration plates:

200€ (code: 0015 – Towing/Trailer licence O1, O2) 200€
30€ (code: 2992 – Due to theft, loss, damage, destruction for the 1st time)
